A semi-modern English Violin, by Hawkes & Sons

A semi-modern Violin, by the firm of Hawkes & Sons. Labelled “HAWKES & SONS MAGGINI VIOLIN, Denman St., Piccadilly Circus, London” Hawkes & Sons was an eminent importers and dealers of violins and brass instruments during the early 20th century, London.

The violin was built approximately in 1920, in a typical large form of Maggini model, relevant to its f-holes shape, also the double purfling and an extra turn of the volute from the scroll. The ribs, back and scroll are made by similar bird’s eye maple. It is covered with golden-brownish color, and the coat varnish is shiny.
